Issues

I'll try not to be too "wordy", but lets summarize a few of my thoughts on some of the current issues in Prairie Village

  1. Our city needs to ensure that we invest in infrastructure that is necessary, environmentally friendly, carry reasonable cost, and provide tangible benefit for current/future residents as well as our children. There will continue to be development projects proposed in our city, and I aim to make sure that the right ones get approved and completed in the right way.

  2. There are many people in our community that are simply un-plugged from local government. This isn't because they don't want to help, but because their schedule simply won't allow them to make council meetings, community events, etc. Many of these people are working in jobs that won't allow them much flexibility in the evenings or even young families that have dinner and bedtimes to worry about each night.

We need to do a better job in keeping these people informed on what is actually taking place in our city. We need to do a better job in receiving feedback from these people and the rest of our community. And we need to help empower people in our community to help make our city better through getting their help/input directly on the various committees that drive a lot of activities in the city.

  3. The past few years have seen a lot of misinformation being spread throughout our city during public comments at in-person meetings as well as online in various social media forums and websites. This hurts our community. When something gets loud enough, people tend to latch onto whatever they hear and create opinions based solely on those things.  We need to be better at calling out bad actors, ensure that the truth/facts are up front within communications online, and clean up the muck. This all said, while on council we also must stay vigilant in considering and respecting the thoughts or opinions of others that may not align with our own. Our city is fantastic, we need to get back to acting in a way that is representative of that fact.

If you feel the way I do about Prairie Village, join me and get involved in our beloved city's future!
